Why "allowable"? Well throughout history chairs have reflected the status of the person sitting on them. The size, decoration and sheer ornateness of the chair saying a lot about the person sitting in it. Indeed in classical times to the time of the pharaohs, the chair was reserved for the high and mighty, only kings, lords and bishops were allowed chairs at all, the rest of the populace had to do with sitting on chests, benches or stools.
Such chairs have so comfortable features that people cannot resist using them. Imagine the greatness when you can get a chair with foot recliner to be taken along with you on a backpacking trip. You are sitting on it on a beach or a mountain. Such chairs also have wooden armrests. The users can feel so cosy because after they are so tired from a day's walk in a hiking trip, they can shed all their fatigue on such chairs. People also envy you when they see you have such a comfortable backpacking chair with you for the trips.
Lift chairs are a source of independence for people who have trouble rising from a sitting position. The chairs are motorized, and they rise slowly and tip forward slightly to allow the person to go from sitting to standing without having to lift their body weight. They are very useful in private homes, and in nursing homes to help the elderly or disabled have a degree of independence and to keep nursing assistants free to tackle more demanding tasks.
